Sorting Out
IB Focus/School Vision/Mission
The school communicates its assessment philosophy, policy and procedures to the school community.
In Preschool, assessment in ongoing as we implement the EYFS blended with the PYP Scope and Sequence. Staff make observations on the children daily and record their progress through the use of Portfolios. Trackers are also completed termly as a more formal record of the children's progress. Based on these Trackers and observations, Pupil Progress meetings are held with the leadership team to ensure teachers are providing individualised learning opportunities for each child's needs and interests.
The school's formal assessment policy is reviewed frequently by the school's Curriculum Committee which is made up of members of staff from each stage of the school and is available for parents to view on the school's website here.
Sorting Out
This week we are in the Sorting Out section of our Inquiry cycle. The children have been playing a game to sort out what equipment goes with what profession as well as a game on the iPads to dress a character up in uniforms from different jobs. You can download the app, called 'Dress Up: Professions', on Apple or Android devices, for your child to play at home.
Our current Line Of Inquiry is 'How communities are organised' and this links with the Key Concept of 'Responsibility'. We have been able to link this with our International Week activities by comparing services here in Thailand with services in Ghana.
Next week we are lucky enough to be able to welcome a former police officer and current doctor into class to speak about their roles within our community.
Maths
This week we completed the children's key skills assessments in maths in order to determine next step targets for each individual child. These are now on display outside the classroom. We then began to work with individual children on their targets in areas such as number recognition, shape recognition and 1-2-1 correspondence. This will continue into next week.
Phonics
This week we were reading lots of stories about firefighters, fire engines and fire stations. We also learned to actions and words to the nursery rhyme 'Hurry Hurry Drive the Fire Truck'. You can use this link to practice at home!
Specialist Lessons
This week in music the children were practising singing hello in different languages as part of our International Week celebrations. You can practice at home with them here.
