IB Focus/School Vision/Mission

How do we teach the essential elements of the PYP?

At UDIS we teach the 5 essential elements of the PYP:

- Action - a change in thinking or behaviour as a result of learning
- Skills - communication, thinking, research, self-management, social
- Attitudes -Appreciation, Commitment, Confidence, Cooperation, Creativity, Curiosity, Empathy, Enthusiasm, Independence, Integrity, Respect, Tolerance
- Concepts - Form, Function, Causation, Change, Perspective, Connection, Responsibility, Reflection
- Knowledge - Who We Are, How We Express Ourselves, How We Organise Ourselves, How The World Works

In preschool we do this through the action board displayed outside the classroom, Inquiry boards inside the classroom, planning sheets for our Units of Inquiry, Attitudes big book, modelling, teacher questions, provocations and Learner Profile stickers, display and big book.

Reflection

This week the children have been reflecting on what they have learnt over the course of this Unit of Inquiry. We have looked back over all the roles within the community and the children have considered what roles they might like to play in their own communities when they are older. This will form the basis of our Summative Assessment to understand how much the children have understood and learned from this Unit of Inquiry.

Maths

This week in maths we have been exploring 2D shapes again. Playing shape bingo has helped us to learn the names of the shapes and recognise similarities and differences.

Phonics

This week we have been reading the story 'The Jolly Postman' and playing out the story in the Post Office role-play area. The children have really enjoyed writing letters to others.

Specialist Lessons

This week in Thai...

Learner Profile

This week we have been focusing on being a Reflectosaurus. The children have been reflecting on all the different roles within the community that we have learnt about in this Unit of Inquiry.

Student Choice (UOI)

The children have enjoyed mark making with the vehicles this week.
