Global Play Day and HarborLand

IB Focus/School Vision/Mission

The schedule allows for in-depth inquiry into the transdisciplinary and disciplinary dimensions of the curriculum.

In EY, we try to ensure our timetabled specialist lessons are at the beginning or end of the morning session, where possible. This allows for blocks of uninterrupted 'inquiry through play' time. During this time, the children are allowed to freely choose learning activities that interest them, from a selection set out by the teacher which support out Unit of Inquiries and the learning standards set out by the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum. The children may also receive some direct teaching in phonics and maths, either in small groups or as a whole class.

Outside play, messy day

The children have really been enjoying the use of our outside area which is now open for them to access freely throughout the morning with staff supervising at all times. It has been wonderful watching the children being risk-takers and trying new activities. We especially enjoyed it when Dr Lindsay came to play with us!
Soon, we hope to invite families in for a Messy Play, Messy Day' so you can have a better understanding of the benefits of this type of play.

Maths

This week in maths we continued to sort shapes.

Phonics

This week in phonics we learned the story of Little Red Riding Hood. The children had lots of fun drawing maps to help Little Red Riding Hood find her way safely through the forest to Grandma's house.

Learner Profile

This week we have been looking for the children to be a 'Risk-takerocus'. With so many new activities to try they have been really brave and tried their best to push their boundaries.

Student Choice (UOI)

As well as Global Play Day and our field trip to HarborLand, the children have also been exploring play through the story of Little Red Riding Hood. Some children enjoyed making sculptures of the wolf and other characters using clay and some children built a road for Little Red Riding Hood to travel safely though the forest.

We also had lots of fun helping the gardener to pot our class plants.
