Finding Out - Apprenticeship Week

IB Focus/School Vision/Mission

Collaborative planning and reflection takes place regularly and systematically.

For EY, collaborative planning takes place 4 times a year, as we teach 4 Units of Inquiry or UOI. This curriculum is called our Programme of Inquiry, or POI. The three homeroom teachers and teaching assistants come together with the specialist teacher if we are making links with a specialist on that Unit, and the PYP Coordinator to plan for the children's learning, assessments and interests. Everyone's voice is equal and valued. Input from Thai staff is important as we value the home culture and mother tongue of our schools largest nationality population.
Reflection also takes place 4 times a year at the end of each Unit of Inquiry. Again the teaching teams, specialists and PYP coordinator come together to discuss what worked well and what didn't so that we can make improvements for the following year's Programme of Inquiry.

Apprenticeship Week

This week the children had the opportunity to choose which jobs around school they would like to learn more about. From the Head of School to the Chef, children went to find out more about the roles these people play in our School Community and how they help us.

Maths

This week in maths the children have continued to explore the balance scales. They have really enjoyed weighing rocks, beads and tiles!

Phonics

This week we were reading lots of stories about doctors, nurses and hospitals. We also learned to actions and words to the nursery rhyme 'Miss Polly had a dolly'. You can use this link to practice at home!

This week we were focusing on being Principled and doing the right thing, we talked about how doctors and nurses have to always do the right thing to look after people carefully.

The children have really enjoyed our hospital role play this week after learning all about the equipment used with Miss Som-o on their nurse apprenticeship, and at circle time with Miss Snook.
